General Requirements for Entry into Zambia

Visas are required for citizens from countries outside of COMESA, SADC, and Brazil. These visas can be processed at Zambian Embassies or High Commissions in the country of origin. If no embassy is present, applications can be handled through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the visa issued upon arrival.

A Business Visa is required for anyone entering Zambia to work, typically valid for 30 days. Any stay beyond 30 days requires a Temporary Employment Permit or another appropriate permit, depending on the nature and duration of the work.

To apply for a visa, the following documents are typically needed:

  • CV or bio of each crew member
  • Completed accreditation form
  • A supporting letter from the production company
  • Contact details of a local person in Zambia

General Accreditation Requirements

All foreign crew members must be accredited with ZANIS (Zambia National Information Services).

Required Documentation for Application

Each crew member must complete the press accreditation form and submit four passport-sized photos. Additionally, an official letter from the organization the crew is representing should be provided, detailing the purpose of their mission in Zambia, the entry and exit dates, and ports of entry and exit. Upon approval, a temporary import permit will be issued by the Zambia Revenue Authority. This permit ensures that no duty is paid on any equipment brought into the country, and must be presented upon entry and exit.

Drone Permit

Drone Regulations:

You are allowed to bring your own drone into Zambia. The application process takes approximately 2 months.

Drone Importation Regulations:

The Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA) requires you to submit a letter requesting authorisation to temporarily import and operate a drone.

Application Process and Costs: 

To bring in a drone, you need to apply for a permit from the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority. Upon arrival, the drone will be inspected. You must hire drone inspectors for each location where the drone will be flown. There is an additional fee of $70 per day for the inspector’s out-of-office allowance. Since the inspectors come from Lusaka, you will also need to cover their accommodation and meals. To simplify, consider hiring a local pilot with an ROC (Remote Operator Certificate) license.

General process for non-carnet country

For non-Carnet countries, once the accreditation application is approved and based on the equipment list, the Zambia Revenue Authority will issue a Temporary Import Permit (TIP). This permit must be presented upon entry and exit, ensuring that no duty is charged on the equipment the crew brings into the country.
